Risdam-Zuid
In 1971, construction of houses started in Risdam-Zuid.
The name Risdam comes from the name Rijsdam, a historic waterway along the Keern. The northern part of the Keern itself was also called Rijsdam. Another historic element in the district is formed by the Medemblikkertrekvaart, which runs right through the neighborhood.
There are two parks in the Risdam: the Risdammerhout and the district park Risdam-Noord. The De Huesmolen shopping center is also located in the neighborhood. On the south side of the district you will find the Hof van Hoorn shopping boulevard on the site of the old Van Aalstweg business park.
At the edge of the district is the sports and recreation park the Blue Mountain. Furthermore, the half-open De Westfries ice skating rink is located in this plan area. Furthermore, the Clusius College and the Westfries Archive are located in this area.
