Where are we??
Where are we???
In times of uncertainty it is nice to know where you are.
But how did sailors do that in the middle of the ocean or on the Zuiderzee between 1700 and 1900 without Google Maps, TomTom or a map?
Answers to these questions and more are exhibited in the Meeting Center of Centrum Varend Erfgoed on the southern tip of the Oostereiland.
What is a sextant? How does a deep plummet work and why are gulls important when sailing at sea….
After the successful photo exhibition “Work in progress” there is another exhibition, this one about navigating ships after 1700, with some ways of navigating still being used today, just think of sailing on the stars.
Walk past our collection of sailing monuments in the museum harbor and step into the meeting center.
The meeting center is open every Sunday afternoon between 1 and 4 pm in July and August. Guided tours for groups are provided on request. Entrance is free.
You can also go to the meeting center for information about boat trips with historic ships,
