A city full of monuments
Hoorn is a city full of monuments. When you walk through the city centre of Hoorn, you will notice that out of every three premises, on average two of them are of historical value. Not so surprising when you realise that Hoorn accounts for more than 350 of the country’s national monuments, as well as more than 200 municipal monuments. You can effortlessly project the current city map to the one dating from 1630, drawn up by Amsterdam’s famous map maker Blau. It is not without reason that Hoorn is the third monumental city of the North Holland (after Amsterdam and Haarlem).
In a city with so many monuments it is quite obvious that the strolling tourist can discover many facades on the buildings. Hoorn has hundreds of them, with the most wonderful images. Until the 18th century these were used as “house brands” because street numbers did not yet exist. Nowadays those facades have been the inspiration for the designers of the pictograms that Ik hou van Hoorn applies.
